That Sam I Am, that Sam I Am, do you want to be like that Sam I Am? Perhaps you like Green Eggs and Ham, or want to try them like Sam I Am?
Rhyming aside, this may not only be your child's favorite book, it may also be a fun thing to try and eat with them during and after a reading of the book. In developing a child's love of reading, trying things that make the books come to life is one fabulous way to ensure that books will be an important part of your child's future. Here is a possible recipe to try that will not only appeal to your little reader, but may even impress the entire family's taste buds.
What You Need:
One small, pre-cooked, pre-sliced ham
two eggs for each eater
butter
1/2 cup honey
warm water
salt
pepper
green food coloring
Make the Ham:
To begin with, preheat the oven to 250, and separate the ham into slices. Foil-coat a cookie sheet, and arrange the slices flat onto a cookie sheet. Pour the honey into a bowl, and add a few drops of warm water until the honey is easy to stir, but not so much that it's watery. Add the green food coloring to this mixture, drop by drop, until it reaches the color of green that you like. Spread this paste liberally on each ham slice, and put them in the oven to warm. Serve when they reach the temperature you like, but keep an eye on them, as sugars easily burn.
Make the Eggs:
Depending on whether your family likes fried or scrambled eggs, there are a few different ways to go about this. For fried eggs, crack two into a sandwich-sized ziploc bag, and add a teaspoon of water and a little bit of food coloring to the bag as well. Make sure that the water coating and the dye are coating the entire egg, and let it sit for a few hours. Add a sprinkle of salt, which helps the egg release a bit more water to lubricate the path of the dye. Wait about an hour, and then dump your eggs into a frying pan and fry.
Scrambled Eggs
Scrambled eggs are easier to mix- add food coloring drops to create the color you like and mix well. As a variation, cook your eggs omelet-style and add some white cheese to the inside. Salt and pepper to taste.
