BANDWIDTH

n. 1. refers to the range of information available from measuring instruments. Greater bandwidth is generally associated with lower fidelity. 2. the width of a band of frequencies, usually expressed in hertz (cycles per second). It is a measure of the capacity of a communication channel: or the measure of the amount of information that it can transmitted per unit of time.
