An adjective applied to any person, object, or experience that is consciously or unconsciously charged with sexual feeling. In psychoanalytic theory all sexual energy is believed to stem from a single instinctual source, the libido. A great many activities, ideas and parts of the body may become “eroticized,” or “li- bidinized.” Dancing is an obviously erotic activity. The pursuit of ideas is less obvious but is regarded as an ex pression of the same basic instinct. Some psychoanalytic theorists trace scientific curiosity to voyeurism, others simply remind us of phrases like “the love of knowledge.” In fact, in this theory anything we “love” to do or to be has been eroticized and can be traced to the libido.
