Blind spot; a permanent or temporary area of depressed (relative scotoma), altered (scintillating scotoma), or absent (absolute scotoma) vision caused by lesions of the visual system or various other factors. May occur in the center of the visual field (see: central scotoma), or in the peripheral field (see: paracentral scotoma). See also: visual field defect.
