1. categorization within learning environments that divides individuals based on their individual aptitudes and groups them together with like persons.

ABILITY GROUPING: "Alice, a third grader, was measuring ahead of her grade across the board based on test results, so she was placed in reading and math groups with the fourth graders who had similar results to hers."
