Elisabeth Kiibler-Ross devised the five stages of dying- this being the last of those stages. In this stage, individuals retract from life and accept that death will ensue

ACCEPTANCE STAGE: "The fifth stage of the five stages of dying, the acceptance stage, is equally as important as the four preceding it with respect to a healthy approach to death."
