ALS OB

Terminology often correlated with a theory founded by Hans Vaihinger, a German philosopher, which postulated that specific falsehoods such as growing old, ought to be encouraged and experienced as though they were indeed accurate and real, because there are natural benefits which come along with doing so

ALS OB: "Als ob in German is the equivalent usage of the phrase as if in English."
