1. severe impairment in or the complete loss of the ability to stand (see astasia) or walk (see abasia). 2. a person walking with a wobbly, staggering gait. In this case, control is maintained when lying down. This disorder is believed to be psychogenic in origin and may manifest as a symptom of conversion disorder. Also known as Blocq's disease.
