n. 1. the practice of a skill or habit to the point whereby it becomes routine and requires little if any conscious effort or direction. 2. the state of individuals who obey compulsive thoughts so automatically that the resulting behavior may be described as automata (see automaton).

AUTOMATIZATION: "Automatization refers to practicing a skill to such an extent that it becomes virtually routine - for example, hitting a golf ball."
