AUTOPHAGY

1. refers to the chewing or eating of one's own flesh. 2. the body's attempt to manage nutrition by consuming its own tissues, as in times of excessive fasting. In these times, for example, the muscles are consumed. Also known as autophagia.

AUTOPHAGY: "A person exhibiting signs of autophagy attempts to eat his or her own flesh in some manner. "
