BASAL DENDRITE

n. a dendrite (threadlike projection) which extends horizontally from the cytoplasm of an existing neuron. Specifically, these dendrites emerge from the base of pyramidal cells. Compare apical dendrite.

BASAL DENDRITE: "Appearing as a tree-like projection, a basal dendrite transmits impulses from nearby cells to an adjacent neuron."
