BELOW AVERAGE

adj. a range of classification which falls below normal or not up to par, yet it is the much-preferred term over low normal and dull normal. In intellectual functioning, the below average range is approximtely 80-90 on an IQ scale.

BELOW AVERAGE: "A child's grades may be below average in range to those of kids his grade level and age."
