BIOSYNTHESIS

n. a process among living organisms that involves the formation of complex chemical compounds from simpler substances. The process is enzyme-catalyzed, and its reactions convert substrates into nutrient- and energy-rich molecules. Also called biogenesis. See anabolism.

BIOSYNTHESIS: "Proteins, vitamins, and other body-building nutrients are all products of biosynthesis."
