BUPHTHALMOS

n. a bulging or enlargement of the eye that is abnormally observed in newborns and infants. It is often diagnosed as a condition of congenital glaucoma in which intraocular (eye) pressure is elevated causing the eye to bulge.

BUPHTHALMOS: "More than causing a bulging of the eyes, buphthalmos can result in eye damage and loss of vision."
