was first proposed by Franz Nissl (1860 - 1919) which are microscopic particles which consist of only granular endoplasmic reticulum and ribosomes, which imply they are involved in a large protein synthesizing process.

NISSL BODIES: "Cells, such as nissl bodies contain onto endoplasmic reticulum and ribosomes which we can infer from this they have a role in major protein synthesis."
