postulated by American sociologist Sale Dannefer, the false presumption that anything which appears like a typical trend or pattern of modifications with age is a primary, normative part of aging.

ONTOGENETIC FALLACY: "Ontogenetic fallacy points out that handicaps in elder years are not normal parts of progressive aging just because they are more common in the elder period of life."
