PEREMPTORY CHALLENGE

a request posed to the judge during voir dire posing that a prospective member of the jury be removed, allowing someone else to take their place, without providing a particular reason for such. With regard to criminal trials, each side is permitted a specific number of peremptory challenges.

PEREMPTORY CHALLENGE: "The court will only grant you two peremptory challenges."
