SELF-ABASEMENT

Degradation or humiliation of oneself, especially because of feelings of guilt or inferiority. Acute subjugation of oneself to the will of another. Also known as: self-debasement.

SELF-ABASEMENT: "Self-abasement is voluntary self-punishment or humiliation in order to atone for some real or imagined wrongdoing."
