BALANCE 1

n. refers to a harmonious relationship or equilibrium of opposing forces. See also autonomic balance- balance theory- homeostasis. 2. n. also refers to the sense of equilibrium mediated by the vestibular system of the inner ear. 3. vb. to adjust forces to maintain an equilibrium from which it would ordinarily deviate.

BALANCE 1: "The person was helped to balance by his or her vestibular system, located within the lower ear."
