n. a less-clinical classification of psychological and behavioral dysfunctions. Theoretically, it was presumed that these types of dysfunctions had a biological etiology and, thus, a physical manifestation. With this classification, however, personal problems are categorized on the basis of behavior and not on the symptoms. As such, much of the clinician's work lies in changing the behavior rather than treating the disease.
