BOARDING-OUT SYSTEM

n. in mental healthcare, refers to a system in which patients with psychotic conditions are placed under the care of a private home or institution. Although the transfer is voluntary and with the primary carer's consent, allowances may be given and services paid for.

BOARDING-OUT SYSTEM: "Instead of patients being confined to a mental institution, there is also the alternative of opting for the boarding-out system."
