BOUND ENERGY

n. in psychoanalytic theory, refers to the psychic energy which is bound to the ego. This energy is often blocked and it accumulates within, unlike the free energy of the id which is discharged and gratified. Compare free energy.

BOUND ENERGY: "Bound energy (within the ego) is one of two modes of functioning, the other being free energy (of the id)."
