CARVE-OUT

n. a program which exclude certain services, like coverage for health care services that relate to mental health and substance abuse. These services are eliminated from such coverage and are also removed from an insurance plan, but they can be arranged with some other provider.

CARVE-OUT: "There are services not covered by a health insurance contract, and they constitute a carve-out from the plan."
