DEFENSE MECHANISM

Classical psychoanalytical theory. The unconscious reaction the ego uses to protect itself from anxiety arising from psychic conflict. Also called escape mechanism. See avoidance- projection- regression- substitution.

DEFENSE MECHANISM: "Our defence mechanism can be mature or immature."
