Since the introduction of the acia berry, unscrupulous scam artists based on the Internet devised ways to make money by duping the public. Companies enticed people using false health claims and no risk offers that costs thousands of consumers millions of dollars from illegal collections. The Federal Trade Commission filed lawsuits in an attempt to retrieve monies stolen by the perpetrators. In the mean time, the public needs to exercise caution against falling for possible scams.
Acai Berries
The fruit has an abundance of antioxidants, fiber, heart-healthy fats and nutrients. But, cranberries equal acai berries in antioxidant value. Pomegranate juice and red wine offer even more antioxidant properties. Many different foods are also equally rich in fiber. If needing heart-healthy omega-3 fats, physicians highly recommend that consumers use fish oil supplements or simply consume various species of oily fish. Regardless of the hype claimed in ads, the berries do nothing in the way of providing extreme weight loss unless consumers embark on what may be deemed as a starvation diet.
Reputable Options
If determined to try acai berry products, consumers easily find supplements available at local pharmacies displayed alongside other common herbal and vitamin formulas. Many grocery and health food stores sell acai berry juice.
Reliable Online Retailers
Reliable websites are probably far and few between. When consumers believe that they may have located a reputable online dealer, they must first locate and read the fine print. Beware of recurring billing statements, automatic club entries and additional fees and charges. Some sites advertise free trials for a nominal credit card fee that covers shipping and handling.
However, the fine print explains additional exorbitant fees charged for company membership. Cancellation of the product and membership require that the consumer return the product during a specific time frame. Nevertheless, as many dissatisfied customers report, in most instances, consumers have not received the product before the billing cycle ends. Without a product to return, refunds become null and void. Despite the fine print, the FTC explains that the ongoing charges are illegal as the company misrepresents fees and illegally obtains the funds.
If consumers reach customer support, company representatives claim that future cancellations may be possible. But, the next month's shipment is already on the way, which requires payment. Some companies claim that they will cancel the membership but continue billing the customer. Reports indicate that frustrated consumers contact credit card companies to no avail. The companies continue allowing the charges, which gives individuals no recourse except to cancel the credit card.
Additional Warning Signs
Before making a final decision, take the time to research the company. Google the company name or “company name scam. ” Use the company name address and phone number to verify the organization's authenticity through the Better Business Bureau. A number of entries listing consumer complaints screams scam.
