MATERNAL PKU

Which can lead to congenital heart defects, intrauterine growth retardation, mental retardation and microcephaly. Maternal PKU is treated using a dietary intervention the beginning of the child's life, immediately after birth in order to level out the amount of phenylalanine in the babies blood.
