was a U.S. psychologist, psychoanalyst and existentialist who earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1949 in clinical psychology. May had a wide range of popular publications such as the Meaning of Anxiety in 1950 during his time working at the William Alanson White Institute in New York City.
