NEURON (NEURONE)

of which there are many classifications, such as- motor neurons, sensory neurons and interneurons. Equally, there are many structural types of neuron, such as- unipolar neurons, bipolar neurons and multipolar neurons. A neuron is the basic component part, or cellular unit which makes up the nervous system and which acts as the tracks or routes which waves of excitation travel across. The term neuron was first designated to Heinrich Wilhelm von Waldeyer-Hartz (1836 - 1921 ), a German physician.
