noun. 1. the popularity toward residing in cities, that are defined by the U.S. Bureau of the Census as having populaces of fifty thousand or more people. 2. the undertaking of becoming a community with urban traits.

URBANIZATION: "Urbanization has declined over the past few centuries, as more people have fled city lifestyles for suburbia."
